What we see in LaGrange, and how we build for it
The Town of LaGrange, including LaGrangeville, Freedom Plains, Arthursburg and Billings, is wooded, hilly and spread out along Route 55, Route 82 and the Taconic. Driveways here run long, and many of them started as gravel. Converting a gravel drive to asphalt, or replacing a 30-year-old driveway that's breaking up, is the job we do most in LaGrange.
Long driveways live or die on the base and the drainage. We excavate to solid ground, build the specified compacted stone base, pitch the drive so water sheds to the sides, and add culverts or drains where a slope crosses it. Then the specified asphalt layers, compacted for the project.
We also build the stone walls, pillars and Belgian block aprons that LaGrange homeowners use to finish an entrance, and we pave and maintain private roads shared by a few houses.
Common LaGrange projects
- Gravel-to-asphalt conversions on long, wooded driveways.
- Private shared lanes that need paving, drainage and a maintenance plan.
- Sloped lots off Route 55 and Route 82 where runoff washes out the edges.

LaGrange questions
Can you pave a driveway that's 500 feet or longer?
Yes. Long driveways are routine for us. One customer's 700-foot repave, apron and cobblestone repair is on our reviews page. We price by the square foot and by the base work required.
What about my gravel driveway, can it just be paved over?
Only if the gravel is deep, well compacted and drains. Usually we regrade, add item #4 where needed and compact before paving, otherwise the asphalt follows the soft spots.
Do you handle the culvert and drainage on a driveway that crosses a slope?
Yes. Culverts, swales, trench drains and catch basins are part of the driveway job, not an afterthought.
