Asphalt Milling: Take Off the Bad, Keep the Good
Milling grinds off the worn top layer of asphalt at a set depth and leaves the base intact. It's the right first step for resurfacing a lot or road, and it keeps the new surface flush with curbs, drains and doorways.
What goes into our milling
Depth control
We set the cutting depth to the job: skim the surface, remove a full course, or mill to the base.
Clean transitions
Milling at edges, curbs and entrances lets the new pavement tie in without a lip.
Traffic control
Cones, signage and flaggers where the work meets live traffic.
Millings recycled
Ground asphalt is hauled off and recycled, or reused as base where appropriate.
The process
Setup
Milling machine and trucks staged, cutting depth set, traffic control in place.
Milling
The machine removes the surface in passes while the conveyor loads millings into trucks.
Cleanup
The milled surface is swept clean and inspected for soft spots that need repair.
Paving
Tack coat and new asphalt go down, usually the same day or the next.
Milling FAQ
When is milling better than paving over the old surface?
Any time the new surface needs to stay flush with curbs, drains, garage floors or sidewalks, or when the old surface is too deteriorated to bond to. Paving over without milling raises the grade and traps water.
Do you mill residential driveways?
Yes. We mill driveways at the garage and road transitions, and full-depth where a driveway is being resurfaced.
How long does milling take?
A typical commercial lot is milled in a day. Paving follows as soon as the surface is cleaned and any repairs are made.
